  • Biography My company, Zavoodi Inc., creates customized turn-key social network communities -- like the one you're using now. Organizations like Apple and Apple Europe utilize this customized collaboration platform for members of their organization to interact with one-another in a decidedly social fashion. I recently worked as the Director of Online Technology for Northern Kentucky University's College of Informatics for four years. There, I lead the strategic and operational initiatives that laid the digital foundations for this new, dynamic, high-tech college. As former co-chair of the MacLearning.org steering committee, I helped guide the body that oversees our web site, webcasts, and the AcademiX conference series. I co-authored a paper "The Impact of Noise on Learning: Information Assimilation and Productivity", which was presented at EDINEB in June of 2006. My current foci include social networks, multipoint media distribution techniques and multichannel learning. Prior to joining NKU, I was Director of Online Communication for the College of Business at the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs. My industry experience includes KPMG Consulting (now BearingPoint), where I was a senior consultant in the Broadband Solutions Group in the Communication and Content practice. Prior to KPMG, I held positions in systems administration, publishing, and communication for firms such as Time Warner Telecom, Music News Inc., and Totum Global. As an entrepreneur, I've launched multiple media companies, including web development startups, an entertainment magazine, a newspaper, and recording studio. Under my leadership, "The Denver Scene", grew to be the region's largest entertainment publication. Recent projects include the MacLearning.org community, Groove River (a social network for independent musicians), the Apple Distinguished Educators community, and the Apple Regional Training Centers community. I hold a Bachelor of Science in Business from the University of Colorado, where I graduated magna cum laude. I make my home in Fort Thomas, Kentucky with my wife of 20 years, three awesome children, and a dog.

David Wicks I wish Apple would have announced iBooks for Mac and PC as part of today's events. I can't help but think that part of Apple's success with iTunes was the ubiquity of the player.

A follow-up to my question. I bought two inexpensive cases for my wife and I.
The first is a Griffin Technology Elan Form Graphite ($7.16 on Amazon). It is a two-piece case that snaps and holds together well. The front and back bezel is raised slightly which allows me to place my phone face-down (my preference so that if something drops on the phone it is at least protected by the back case). I do find the raised bezel can make it challenging to highlight text at the edges of the screen. The case looks nice and seems to offer decent protection (though I've not felt the need to quantify that).
The second case is a Griffin iPhone 4 CDMA & GSM Reveal Case ($14 @ Amazon). It has a soft(er) rubber band around the edges of the phone and a clear plastic back. Front and back bezel is raised. It poses less of a problem with edge-of-screen text selection because the bezel flexes so you can get your finger right to the edge of the screen. The back plastic mars easily. My wife like this case better than the other as it isn'...    less

If not, you might consider using the included QuickTime Player to do the capture, and then a third-party service to ingest and host the videos.

I previously kept my iphone 3GS in my pocket a lot. I had a silicon case for it but hated how it was constantly coming off when I pulled it out of my pocket. So I put a very thin plastic case (called Nude) on it, and both marveled at how 3 cents of plastic could cost $20, but also how well it worked.

    Thanks in advance.

At NKU's college of informatics, we used Wikis and blogs in the classroom for a variety of purposes, including student blogging, detailing outcomes, news writing, and media publishing. Additionally, we saw some use of wikis for group documentation. We had very high hopes for Podcast Producer, but that initiative failed for a variety of reasons, not the least of which was Apple struggling to demonstrate that it would work in a homogeneous environment dominated by active directory. Though we had it running flawlessly in a test bed, we didn't get traction in a larger setting.

The death-knell was sounded when Apple cancelled Xserve.

Our IT dept. had just started to make an investment in Apple hardware and there were some gains in mindshare. But that was instantly and (IMHO) permanently destroyed with the elimination of XServe.  less

A follow-up to my question. I bought two inexpensive cases for my wife and I.

My wife like this case better than the other as it isn't as slippery overall.

I find both to be fairly priced and have held up well in the ~2 months we've had them. Both are slim enough that they fit our various charging docks without requiring case removal.
